We often associate the "Shadow" with the negative qualities that we have disowned; our greed, selfishness, thoughtlessness, laziness. But we also disown some of the most powerful parts of ourselves. These soul parts contain amazing amounts of energy - think supernova - and we need to reclaim them. These Power Shadows are qualities that we long to have - AND were once ours, but are currently not available to us.
"Shamans believe that the soul can be lost through trauma, abuse, shock - and, fundamentally, by dishonouring nature or ignoring our need to connect with it. In many shamanic countries, there are still roadside shrines where people can rest, pay their respects to the natural world, and receive healing and replenishment from it."
"What do you do after a shamanic healing experience? In past times people lived in a way that they saw soul loss in each other when it happened. They noticed the dampening of spirit, the loss of energy, and the absence within the person that they love. They noticed the presence of the dead and other intruding spirits."
"Any event that causes shock could cause soul loss. And what might cause soul loss in one person might not cause soul loss in another. It is important to understand that soul loss is a good thing that happens to us. It is how we survive pain."
"It has always been the role of the shaman to go into an altered state of consciousness and track down where the soul fled to in the alternate realities and return it to the body of the client."
