What would you see if you could look inside a hallucinating brain? Despite decades of scientific investigation, we still lack a clear understanding of how hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), mescaline, and psilocybin (the main active ingredient in magic mushrooms) work in the brain. Modern science has demonstrated that hallucinogens activate receptors for serotonin, one of the brain?s key chemical messengers. Specifically, of the 15 different serotonin receptors, the 2A subtype (5-HT2A), seems to be the one that produces profound alterations of thought and perception. It is uncertain, however, why activation of the 5-HT2A receptor by hallucinogens produces psychedelic effects, but many scientists believe that the effects are linked to increases in brain activity.
It's called allergic rhinitis, technically. But we know it as hay fever (or as I've called it for years "what-did-I-ever-do-to-deserve-this?!"). There's simply nothing more frustrating than the unrelenting urge to sneeze, sniffle and wheeze through a nose plugged up with pollen. The whole thing is absurd, really. Our immune systems go haywire, and see harmless plants (or dust, or dander) as real threats, and works to push them out of our system, inflaming and irritating along the way. And those conventional allergy meds? They can often leave you feeling worse. But you can find relief, naturally with essential oils.
Crows and Ravens are from the same family and the only real physical difference between the two is their size. Ravens tend to be much larger and are found mainly in wilderness areas although I have seen several near my home. Ravens also carry medicine that is slightly different than that of Crows, which I will cover in another article. The following though will relate to both.
Both Ravens and Crows associate with Wolves as well so those who have these birds as Totems are also likely to have Wolf as a Totem as well.
Crows and Ravens are extremely intelligent. They can learn to use tools, develop complex communication with humans and other species. They are wonderful for psychic protection and will literally mob together to drive off negative energy from those they care for. They are also called thieves in that they will nick jewelry, coins, watches, anything shiny that catches their attention. One friend of mine living in a flat in LA said that for several months people had been com
The archetype of the shadow is depicted as: A shadowy figure, often the same sex as dreamer but inferior; a zombie or walking dead; a dark shape; an unseen ?Thing?; someone or something we feel uneasy about or in some measure repelled by; drug addict; pervert; what is behind one in a dream; anything dark or threatening; sometimes a younger brother or sister; a junior colleague; a foreigner; a servant; a gypsy; a prostitute; a burglar; a sinister figure in the dark. Often there is an air of disrepute about the person, or of danger, but that is not always so. Sometimes it appears as simply an indistinct figure, or someone difficult to really see clearly.
Lifestyle factors you can easily change account for more than 90 percent of heart attack risk, a landmark study of about 30,000 people in 52 countries suggests. And making small, positive changes in your everyday habits can have a surprisingly big impact on your heart health?or even save your life.
Here?s a look at six of the worst habits for your heart, and how to turn them around.
Quantum physics has shown us that the mere act of observing a sub-atomic particle changes it. This knowledge has had a huge effect not only on the scientific community but also for those on a spiritual path. Of course the great spiritual masters have always taught us that we are beings of light and energy ? which of course we are on a sub-atomic level. Everything in this universe therefore exists as energy and that includes our thoughts. Just as scientists have changed the behaviour of sub-atomic particles merely by observing them, so we can change or bring about outcomes merely by focussing our attention.
1. A healer should never forget that they are a vessel/channel and nothing else; the healer does not determine the outcome of a healing, the client and Spirit do. If a body is not willing to accept the healing, no healing shall occur. If a body does heal, then you can sincerely reassure the person receiving the treatment that it is their own desire to heal in conjunction with Spirit?s energy and the cellular reactivation of their ?internal healer? which has been initiated which does the main portion of the healing process. ***This keeps you (the healer) at once both humble and grateful in the face of what transpires, while also providing you with the freedom and honor to witness miracles at work, whether that be the miracle of the body or any other context you wish to ascribe by your own definition of ?miracle?.
In a new study, woman who had practiced yoga for at least two years were found to have lower levels of inflammation in their bodies than did women who only recently took up the activity.
Inglammation is an immune response and can be benefiticial when your body is fighting off infection, but chronically high levelsof inflammation are known to play a role in certain conditions, including asthma, cardiovascular disease, and depression.
Carlos Barrios, Mayan elder and Ajq?ij (is a ceremonial priest and spiritual guide) of the Eagle Clan. Carlos initiated an investigation into the different Mayan calendars circulating. Carlos along with his brother Gerardo studied with many teachers and interviewed nearly 600 traditional Mayan elders to widen their scope of knowledge.
Carlos found out quickly there were several conflicting interpretations of Mayan hieroglyphs, petroglyphs, Sacred Books of ?Chilam Balam? and various ancient text. Carlos found some strong words for those who may have contributed to the confusion:
Carlos Barrios: ?Anthropologists visit the temple sites and read the inscriptions and make up stories about the Maya, but they do not read the signs correctly. It?s just their imagination. Other people write about prophecy in the name of the Maya. They say that the world will end in December 2012. The Mayan elders are angry with this. The world will not end. It will be transformed.?
A distinct aspect of Jungian ecopsychology is using dreams to help one connect to a place, be it a city or a natural environment. The soul needs to be rooted to a place for it to emerge and flourish. Jung said a person was neurotic if not connected to the land, and attached great importance to our innate ability to connect deeply to the land A main premise of deep ecology is that we are capable of connecting far more deeply to the land than we currently do. E. O. Wilson described biophilia as an innate love of nature.
Connection to the land is an important foundation for environmentalism, for one who loves the land will not need a host of rules and regulations in order to protect and use it in a sustainable way. There are three examples in this web site of how dreams help further a connection to the land or a city.
What has life taught you? Think about all the things you would love to tell yourself if you could travel back in time to give your younger self some advice about life.
This is what our sister site, Everyday Life Lessons, is all about. Here?s a fresh sample of our favorite life lessons that were recently published on the site:
What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.
In life, you usually get what you ask for, but it rarely comes in the package you think it?s supposed to come in.
Are you wondering what those white spots, bulges, or ridges on your fingernails mean? Dr. Cobi Slater, PhD, DNM, CHT, RNCP, ROHP at Essential Health Natural Wellness Clinic, in Maple Ridge, Canada says ?Changes in fingernail appearance can indicate something deeper is going on in the body.? They can provide clues to your health and nutritional status. She shared the following simple way to decode your fingernails:
Color
White spots ? zinc deficiency
Yellow nails ? liver and/or gallbladder issues
Bluish or grey colored nails ? heart condition
Brown nails ? adrenal gland dysfunction
For many people, the very word grief is off-putting. This can be for many reasons. First of all, when most people hear the word grief, they automatically think of death or divorce. However, grief is the byproduct of many other losses: moving, ending of a relationship, loss of spiritual connection or God, loss of health, loss of employment, loss of hopes, dreams or expectations- the list can go on and on. Secondly, many folks are in denial. Daily, I work with clients who think they have dealt with the loss and then we get into the recovery work only to find that they really were not ok and were living an emotional incomplete life. Worse, some never take the time to think of how things in their life impacted them so they do not seek out recovery.
Warriors of light are never predictable.
They might dance down the street on their way to work, gaze into the eyes of a complete stranger and speak of love at first sight, or else defend an apparently absurd idea.
Warriors of light allow themselves days like these. They are not afraid to weep over ancient sorrows or to feel joy at new discoveries.
When they believe that the moment has arrived, they drop everything and go off on some long-dreamed-of adventure.
When they realize that they can do no more, they never blame themselves for having committed a few unexpected acts of folly. Warriors do not spend a single days trying to play the role that others have chosen for them.
We travel in search of it, marry for the sake of it, see coaches and therapists to enhance it, switch jobs to capture it, and sock away money to secure it. Yet, for many of us, happiness remains elusive. And even though we spend much of our lives chasing happiness, many of us would be hard-pressed to even define it in the first place.
So what is happiness? Where can we find it? And once we do, how can we keep it?
These are questions that have consumed philosophers, spiritual leaders and artists (to say nothing of folks like you and me) for thousands of years. In the past decade, though, the same questions have attracted the attention of a growing number of psychologists, neurologists, and other respected academics and clinicians.
Shamans believe that all of nature is alive, ensouled. All beings have spirit, and nothing is inert. Throughout the ages, shamans have used crystals for healing. Michael Harner says: "Wherever shamans had access to quartz crystals, they used those crystals in their work." Crystals are conscious partners in the healings I perform. From a human perspective, crystal beings are practically immortal. They are happy to assist in healing in several ways.
either become a perpetrator of further abuse or become self-destructive.
Why? Why would a person who has suffered the emotional horrors of abuse ever afflict another human with such degradation, shock and horror? The diagnosis provided by psychological examination leaves the question unanswered, admitting that there is no hope of understanding, let alone of cure. The mental health paradigm holds that the best that can be done for the victims, and perpetrators, of abuse is to help them to contain and maintain their trauma.
The archaic spiritual form of Shamanism, however, provides clear insight into the underlying cause of abuse, and its effective treatment. The forte' of the Shaman is within the domain of spiritual reality. Inclusive within the realm of the Shaman is the awareness of 'Spirits', the non-physical beings which co-habitate this earthly domain with us.
For elderly pet owners, who often live alone or in group facilities, pets can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase social interaction and physical activity and help them learn.
?A new pet can stimulate someone to read up on an animal or breed, which can be very mentally stimulating and important at that age,? says Dr. Katharine Hillestad, a veterinarian with the office of Doctors Foster and Smith in Rhinelander, Wis., which provides online advice and retails pet supplies and pharmaceuticals.
Pets provide other intangibles. ?Dogs?and other pets?live very much in the here and now. They don?t worry about tomorrow. And tomorrow can be very scary for an older person. By having an animal with that sense of now, it tends to rub off on people,? says Dr. Jay P. Granat, a New Jersey psychotherapist.
Stand before the mirror, and stick out your tongue.
Nothing extraordinary; just an organ of taste and speech, right?
But Ayurvedic healers can read astonishing clues to your health on your tongue. The classic ayurvedic treatise Charaka Samhita, written in 3rd century BC says, ?The dirt which is collected at the root of the tongue creates obstructions in respiration and produces a foul smell, hence one should scrape the tongue.?
Although a healthy tongue is pink and free of bumps or spots, most people have a little coating on their tongues.
No one will disagree that life brings challenges, but step back for a moment and ask the deeper question, which is why. Why is life so difficult? No matter what advantages you are born with? money, intelligence, an appealing personality, a sunny outlook, or good social connections? none of these provides a magic key to an easy existence. Somehow life manages to bring difficult problems, the causes of untold suffering and struggle. How you meet your challenges makes all the difference between the promise of success and the specter of failure. Is there a reason for this, or is life simply a random series of events that keeps us off balance and barely able to cope?
Spirituality begins with a decisive answer to that question. It says that life isn?t random. There is pattern and purpose inside every existence. The reason that challenges arise is simple: to make you more aware of your inner purpose.
